Lucas Hickman Smith have been appointed to design four affordable homes for Saffron Housing at Colton in mid-Norfolk. The appointment follows a lengthy site-finding exercise by Saffron to meet a well-defined local housing need. The site is on the southern edge of the village with views out across open countryside, falling away to the Yare valley.
‘This is a great opportunity for our practice to explore some of the ideas I’ve been developing through my blog Ruralise,’ explains LHS’s Matt Wood. ‘We’ll be aiming to develop a design that is sympathetic to this attractive site and the wider Norfolk landscape, but at the same time producing something that is clearly contemporary, of its own time’.
Preliminary design work has started and a planning application will be submitted in February or March next year, after consultation with the local planning authority and village residents.
